The inaugural Service Excellence Awards took place in 2014. Since then the event has taken place annually except for 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The event aims to promote a culture of professionalism, dedication and integrity, encouraging collaboration in service delivery; instilling knowledge management within the public service; and sharing best practices based on tested experiences.
The SEA is open to all Western Cape Government employees (appointed in terms of the Public Service Act, 1994 and the Employment of Educators Act, 1998) in recognition of work/or service during a specific period.
The SEA entrenches the WCG value of caring by appreciating and recognising employees in exemplary cases. Employees are the most significant capability enabling element that is ultimately responsible for the execution of organisational functions, in order to achieve organisational goals. Recognising employees’ achievements is therefore the collective responsibility of the Western Cape Government.
