In November 2022, the SLIMS system, managing Western Cape Library Service and its 375 libraries, crashed, with SITA struggling to restore it. Partial recovery in February 2023 resulted in data loss from June 4 to November 15, 2022, impacting 6 million items worth R478 million.
A dedicated recovery team worked tirelessly, recovering over 10 million records alongside regular duties, ensuring service continuity and upholding Batho Pele principles and Western Cape Core Values.
