Recycling Gamechanger
Environmental Affairs and Development Planning
The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Directorate: Sustainability initiated the Recycling Gamechanger to provide dignity, improve working conditions and make a true difference in the lives of informal waste pickers.
The team used the Expanded Public Works Programme as an implementation modality by utilising:
- community centre-based holistic recycling hubs;
- supporting ‘trolleypreneurs’;
- GreenUP in skills development; and
- And promoting sustainable self-employment opportunities
