RCWMCH, a tertiary academic institution catering to children aged birth to 13 years, witnessed a surge in diarrhoea and pneumonia cases in the Western Cape Province during the paediatric surge season (November to May).
Despite the challenges, the team showed care, respect, and exceptional leadership qualities. They took ownership of their roles, improved policies, and continue to uphold values, setting a trend for the province. Lessons from the 2022/23 surge season enhanced decision-making abilities still applied today.
