Oudtshoorn Animal Health Day
Agriculture
The Oudtshoorn Animal Day is an annual one-day event, held every year during September/October since World Rabies Day and World Animal Welfare Day are celebrated then. This successful project is a public private partnership of State Veterinary Office Oudtshoorn and a local NPO: Animal Care Team SA, various local businesses, and animal welfare NPOs. It is organised, hosted, and led by the State Veterinary Office: Oudtshoorn and is a novel approach for the public to experience State Veterinary Services.
The Oudtshoorn Animal Day was established with the key aim of providing the local public with a government services experience, namely our annual free Rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats, while simultaneously incorporating other spheres of animal services available in the area.
Collaboration is key to the success of this initiative as it is extremely challenging for government officials to achieve its objectives with limited funds and administrative red tape.
