Department of Agriculture

The Western Cape Department of Agriculture (WCDOA) is critical to servicing the Agricultural sector of the country, and for this reason, a business continuity plan was imperative to ensure that the respective business functions within the Department have zero to minimal disruption especially where utility services are concerned. The implementation of sustainable vehicles such as boreholes for expelling ground water and Solar PV Inverters and Batteries for energy storage, was identified by the OSS AM&P team as a necessity to support the Department’s critical functions, not only to support the critical functions, but would also serve as means to yield savings based on the capital outlay for the Department’s services. In September 2021 the OSS AM&P team created the Energy Masterplan for Elsenburg, and thereafter with available funding, the OSS AM&P team-initiated phase one of the energy project, with the implementation of a 367kWp Solar PV system. In February 2021/22 the OSS AM&P team implemented the new Borehole Water sustainable system.

The primary objective of the OSS AM&P team was to create a business continuity plan for the WCDoA, with the secondary objective to reduce energy and water usage, thereby reducing the overall services cost for the Department.
