Mr Gerhard Gerber

Mr Gerhard Gerber was appointed as Head of the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning in April 2022. A Senior Manager with more than 26 years of experience in Environmental Management and Development Planning, of which the last 24 years as a public servant.

With qualifications in Nature Conservation, Environmental Management and Development Planning, and many years within the environmental and development planning fields, Gerhard has proven himself to be one of the leaders in the industry, demonstrating excellence in service leadership, not only in the Western Cape, but also on the national platform, presenting numerous papers and participating in many panel discussions over the years.  

Gerhard has 20 years’ experience and has been actively involved in the Municipal Integrated Development Planning (IDP) and has spearheaded the Department’s participation in the WCG Municipal IDP, LG MTEC and Integrated Planning processes. He is no stranger when it comes to the promotion and provision for sustainable spatial planning and has been an active participant in the drafting and implementation of the Provincial Spatial Development Framework and the Regional Spatial Development Frameworks (Regional Spatial Implementation Frameworks).
