Merweville Emergency First Aid Responders (EFARs) also known as "Die Lopende Ambulanse"

The Merweville EFARs are also known as the ‘Lopende Ambulanse’ or the ‘Walking Ambulance’. The group of Merweville residents are well known in the community and are contacted for assistance when people have an emergency. 

Despite the remote location, they find ways to offer care, getting support over the phone from EMS when needed and relentlessly finding creative ways to deliver health care in a rural village that would otherwise be cut off from formal health care services. 

This exciting initiative is an example of the ‘whole of society’ in action.
