Drakenstein Uninterrupted Power Supply of Traffic Lights

Drakenstein Municipality's investment in Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) for traffic signals is a vital part of its Eskom Loadshedding Resilience Plan, focusing on sustainable service delivery, revenue protection, and alternative energy. 

Installing UPS technology at all 48 major intersections, housed underground, enhances road safety and traffic flow during Eskom loadshedding. 

This initiative, a first in Africa, promotes investment and job opportunities. Developed with Smartlock Systems, the underground chambers feature alarms for security and allow easy access for maintenance. The collaborative effort involves municipal departments and is expanding to neighboring municipalities.
