Digital Teaching and Learning Innovation via the WCED ePortal as Premier Gateway to Quality Education Resources
Education
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) ePortal is an education-centric, large-scale distribution platform that provides teachers, learners and parents with online tools and resources to offer learners opportunities to improve their educational results and throughput. It guides them to integrate into a technology-driven society and jobs market. The ongoing vision of the ePortal is to be the preferred delivery and engagement platform for digital educational content that addresses most, if not all, educational needs, hosted within a curriculum-focused ecosystem. WCED curriculum planners responded to school closure and disruption by developing more than 24 000 educational resources in all three official provincial languages, at no cost to the end-user, and in alignment with the South African curriculum (CAPS). More than 31 000 educational resources are hosted on the WCED ePortal, readily available to everybody with internet connectivity.
The project is in alignment with the vision of the National Development Plan (NDP) 2030 of ordering young lives through innovative institutions.
One of the WCED ePortal’s key outcomes is to create a Digital Ecosystem that would provide one single entry point for citizens to access various WCED services through digital transformation.
