Christopher Verreynne
Health – Langeberg Sub District
Mr Verreynne is a Tradesman Aid at Montagu Hospital. He expressed his concern about the easy theft of Diesel, used for the Hospital’s Generator. December 2021, he took the initiative by building a lock system for the Generator, ensuring that the Diesel outlet was covered by steel and secured by two heavy duty locks. He used recycled material (metal) that was stored in the workshop.
Whilst busy with woodwork, he had a recurring challenge with blunt chisels. He subsequently built a chisel sharpener, with an adjustable angle to sharpen the chisels more efficiently and effectively. This invention resolved similar challenges for the whole Langeberg workshop team. Both innovations can be replicated at all Provincial Hospitals and clinics.
The first innovation prevents diesel theft that negatively impacts the hospital’s functionality and ensures that the hospital has an operating generator, when needed. The second innovation can also be used by all institutions with workshops especially carpenters, making their work much easier.
